The 2016 UEFA European Championship, most popularly known as UEFA Euro 2016 or simply Euro 2016, is just a couple of months ahead. In the 15th edition of the championship, 24 European teams will play from 10 June to 10 July this year in ten host cities in France. There was much speculation about who will host Euro 2016? However; the final name came out to be France after a thorough bidding process. The bid came much before the deadline in which France, Italy and Turkey came out as single bids along with Norway and Sweden as a joint bid. Later on, Norway and Sweden withdrew themselves from the UEFA Euro 2016 bidding process.

The country to host the championship should meet certain criteria. The major consideration was about the stadium. At least two stadia has to be with 50,000 seats; three with 40,000 seats and four stadia with 30,000 seats. Italy, Spain and France produced their list of stadia. France included four new stadiums in the list to be developed at Lyon, Villeneuve d’Ascq (Lille), Bordeaux and Nice. The other stadia planned for renovating are at Saint-Denis, Marseille, Lens, Paris, Saint-Étienne, Toulouse, Strasbourg and Nancy.

The voting to finalise the host nation was carried out in two rounds. In the first round, France took the lead with 43 points against 38 for Turkey and 23 for Italy. In the second round, Italy did not get any point and France again surpassed Turkey by just one point, earning seven for themselves.

Thirteen of the 24 nations qualified for Euro 2016, directly qualified for the final tournament. The host France is automatically assigned position A1. The rest of the 23 teams are categorised in four groups with defending champions Spain assigned to Pot 1. Have a look:
